AENY – Spanish Artists in New York proudly presents PLAY LOUD! Music Festival in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes. This inaugural edition, directed by Guillermo Laporta, is set to launch at the Instituto Cervantes headquarters in New York City, from December 9th to December 11th 2013, and comprises an eclectic program with three innovative ensembles exploring the intersections between music and story in their own particular way.

PLAY LOUD! merges the energy of New York City with the talent of musicians from Spain in collaboration with other artists. This season includes the violinist Benita Beneitez (New York: One State. Many Nations), the harpsichordist Ignacio Prego (New Vintage Baroque) and the flutist Guillermo Laporta (Cre.Art Project Ensemble).

NEW YORK: ONE STATE. MANY NATIONS

A Concert of Chamber Music based on the poetic and musical traditions that have shaped New York’s cultural landscape.

Exemplifying the essence of a “cultural melting pot,” New York: One State. Many Nations sets poetry to music in a concert that celebrates the diversity of one of the greatest cities in the world, with inspiration from pieces by Neruda, Rumi, Whitman, Langston Hughes, Tagore, and Cesar Vallejo, to name a few. Composer Carlos D. Bernales orchestrates this ambitious love song to New York. ‘New York’ follows Bernales’ previous project, PERU: One Country. Many Nations in exposing just what makes such a place thrive, under the vibrancy of its inhabitants.

CRE.ART PROJECT ENSEMBLE

Founded in 2006 in Spain by musicians Guillermo Laporta and Tagore Gonzalez, and the subsequent joining of set designer David Orrico, Cre.Art Project operates under the idea of multidisciplinary interaction. The collective aims to produce shows that connect chamber music with theatre, dance, and the audiovisual to evoke a total sensory experience.

Cre.Art Project Ensemble presents a performance called Paris a.m., a production that indulges in how the city of Paris and its artists inspired the age of Impressionism. The show will interweave visual projections and actors reciting French poetry within the chamber music of Debussy, Roussel, and Pierne.

Tuesday December 10th, 2013 – 7pm at Instituto Cervantes NYC

NEW VINTAGE BAROQUE

New Vintage Baroque is a vocal instrumental ensemble that explores the intersection of music, song, and story. Fusing together new commissions with music of the high Baroque, New Vintage weaves together verses, arias and instrumental pieces to explore themes and characters through new perspectives.

New Vintage Baroque will take to the stage of Instituto Cervantes in a celebration of “The Greatest Hits and Exploits of Don Quixote.” Heralded as the “Greatest Book of All Time” by the Nobel Institute, the influence of Cervantes’ novel has inspired countless reinterpretations. New Vintage looks at the cosmopolitan legacy of Don Quixote, performing works by composers from France, Germany, Italy, and of course, Spain. Featured in the program are pieces by Courbois, Caldara, Telemann, and a brand new composition by Doug Balliett.
